BANIHAL, Oct 30 (Agencies): MLA Banihal–Gool, Sajjad Shaheen, today laid the foundation stone of the Mangit–Jamando Road, marking the commencement of work on a long-pending demand of the local population.
The road will provide connectivity to the picturesque tourist destination of Jamando and open new opportunities for tourism and local economic activities. Shaheen said that plans are also underway to develop a park at Jamando to further promote the area as an attractive tourist destination.
He further informed that an internal circular road connecting Mangit and Mahoo has also been proposed at an estimated cost of ₹50 lakh, and work on the project is expected to start shortly. He added that work on improving road connectivity to Mangit and the Bajnari Road is also expected to commence soon. Several other road projects aimed at connecting remote habitations and potential tourist destinations have also been taken up and proposed.
On the power front, Shaheen said that separate 11 kV feeders for Neel and Ukhral were successfully commissioned yesterday at the 33/11 kV Receiving Station, Ramsoo. He said the feeder segregation fulfils a long-pending demand of the local population and is expected to improve power distribution, reduce frequent interruptions and ensure better electricity supply in Neel, Ukhral, Ramsoo and adjoining areas.
Highlighting the broader development agenda of the constituency, Shaheen said that over the last two years, several major initiatives have been undertaken across Banihal–Gool to address the long-standing developmental deficit and improve the quality of life of the people.
He said that focused efforts are underway to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, upgrade school buildings and educational facilities, improve major road networks, extend road connectivity to unconnected habitations and construct bridges in areas where people continue to face difficulties due to the absence of proper connectivity.
He further said that special attention is being given to sports infrastructure, while tourism is being promoted through the development of eco-parks, recreational parks and other tourism-related faciilities. Work on several such projects have already been started, while more projects are in the pipeline.
Shaheen said that remote areas such as Mangit and Mahoo have remained among the priority areas of his development agenda. Efforts are being made to improve their road connectivity and basic infrastructure so that people living in these far-flung areas can also benefit from better facilities and development opportunities.
He added that the power sector is also undergoing a major strengthening and improvement exercise, with feeder segregation, augmentation of receiving stations and other infrastructure upgrades being undertaken to improve the reliability of electricity supply across the constituency.
“Over the last two years, our consistent effort has been to bring a visible and meaningful change in the lives of people, reduce their day-to-day difficulties and ensure that people in every part of Banihal–Gool can lead a dignified life. A number of important projects have already been started, while several others are at different stages of planning and execution,” Shaheen said.
He added that a new phase of development, involving projects of significant and transformative nature, has begun in the Banihal–Gool constituency. He assured that the pace of implementation would be further accelerated in the coming months to ensure timely completion of ongoing works and early commencement of the projects still in the pipeline.
Shaheen reiterated his commitment to taking development to every village and habitation, particularly those which have remained underserved for decades. He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the concerned departments for their continued support and cooperation in advancing the development agenda of Banihal–Gool.
