JAMMU, Oct 31: A delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), led by its President Arun Gupta, met Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner Aayushi Sudan, IAS, and raised several civic and infrastructural issues concerning Jammu city, seeking their early resolution.
At the outset, Arun Gupta expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for her prompt intervention in ensuring the removal of fire debris (malba) from Shiv Market near Jammu Railway Station.
During the meeting, Gupta highlighted the deteriorating condition of several lanes and manholes covered under the Jammu Smart City Project. He urged the Commissioner to ensure their immediate repair to facilitate public movement and prevent possible accidents.
He also stressed the need for proper cleaning and maintenance of drainage systems, particularly in Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Trikuta Nagar. He suggested that Smart City funds should be utilised in areas where infrastructure development is genuinely required.
Raising concerns over the non-functional streetlights in several localities, Gupta called for their timely repair or replacement to ensure adequate illumination and public safety, particularly during night hours.
The delegation also sought the early completion of parking facilities identified at the Bus Stand and Shalamar, besides time-bound completion of shops earmarked for the rehabilitation of Nai Basti shopkeepers.
With the festive season underway, Gupta emphasised the need to extend cooperation to the business community and urged the JMC Commissioner to avoid unnecessary harassment of traders. He suggested that complaints, wherever necessary, should be addressed in consultation with the concerned market associations for an amicable resolution.
The growing problem of stray dogs in various parts of Jammu city was another major concern raised by the delegation. Gupta urged the Commissioner to take immediate measures to address the issue, particularly keeping in view the safety of children and elderly residents.
Responding to the concerns, Commissioner JMC Aayushi Sudan extended Diwali greetings to the business community and the general public. She assured the delegation that no trader would be harassed unnecessarily, while urging shopkeepers to avoid major violations and maintain sufficient space for the smooth movement of pedestrians.
