Srinagar Anti-Corruption Court convicts Ex-Patwari in bribery case, Sentences him to Jail

SRINAGAR, Apr 13 (Agencies): A Special Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar on Monday convicted a former Patwari in a 2007 bribery case, sentencing him to one year of imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 for accepting a Rs 3,000 bribe in connection with a land mutation.

According to a spokesperson, Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, Tasleem Arif, pronounced the judgment in FIR No. 20/2007 registered at Police Station VOK (now ACB). The accused, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, then Patwari Halqa Khushipora Zainkot and resident of Narparistan Fateh Kadal, Srinagar, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe for processing a mutation in favour of the complainant.

The case was registered on April 1, 2007, under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, read with Section 161 RPC. Following investigation by the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (now ACB), the allegations were substantiated through oral and documentary evidence.

The charge sheet was filed on February 29, 2008, before the Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar. The accused was subsequently convicted and sentenced under the relevant provisions, with the court awarding one year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. The case was argued on behalf of ACB Srinagar by Senior Prosecuting Officer Wajahat Jameel.
