SRINAGAR, Sep 7 (Agencies) : The ongoing agitation by MBBS and BDS intern doctors in Jammu & Kashmir intensified on Monday as intern doctor Dr. Faisal Ashraf began a hunger strike at SKIMS, Soura, demanding an immediate enhancement in the monthly stipend.
The hunger strike commenced at 11 am today, marking a further escalation of the interns’ peaceful protest, with doctors reiterating their demand for a formal written government order on the stipend hike.
The protest by MBBS and BDS intern doctors across Jammu and Kashmir has entered its eighth consecutive day, with demonstrations continuing at Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across the region.
Intern doctors across J&K have been demanding an increase in their stipend from the existing ₹12,300 to ₹30,000 per month, citing long working hours, emergency duties and the rising cost of living.
Meanwhile, AIMSA State President, Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally intervene in the matter and facilitate an early resolution.
Dr. Khan appealed to the LG administration to address the long-pending demand and ensure that a formal written order is issued, providing relief to hundreds of MBBS and BDS intern doctors across Jammu & Kashmir.
The protesting interns have maintained that they will continue their peaceful movement until a concrete decision is taken on the stipend enhancement.
