JAMMU, Jun 8: Expressing deep concern over the increasing incidents of chain snatching, burglaries and thefts across Jammu, Arun Gupta, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Jammu, has urged law enforcement agencies to take immediate and effective measures to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of citizens.

In a statement issued here, Arun Gupta said that the recent rise in daylight burglaries and theft cases has created a sense of insecurity and fear among the business community as well as the general public. He pointed out that several incidents reported in recent weeks have raised serious concerns regarding law and order.

Referring to some recent cases, Gupta said that on May 26, a daylight burglary was reported in the New Plot area where thieves allegedly broke into a locked house and decamped with cash and valuables. He also cited multiple thefts in the Gumat area, where residential air conditioners were reportedly stolen. In another incident, thieves allegedly dismantled the roof of a shop in Gumat and stole valuable items from the premises.

He observed that while the Jammu Police is actively working to eradicate the menace of drug abuse, many individuals involved in thefts and snatching incidents appear to be driven by drug addiction. He stressed that curbing drug abuse and tackling street crimes are closely linked and must be addressed simultaneously.

Arun Gupta appreciated the efforts of Jammu Police in pursuing the culprits but said that repeated incidents have caused panic among traders and residents. He emphasized that public safety cannot be compromised and called for a dedicated investigation to identify and dismantle gangs involved in such criminal activities.

He urged the authorities to install high-definition CCTV cameras at critical intersections and vulnerable localities, increase night patrolling, deploy additional police personnel and establish regular checkpoints in sensitive areas.

The Chamber President also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities to the police and take necessary precautions while carrying valuables in isolated areas to ensure their personal safety.
