REASI, Jun 8: During a meeting held here today to review the issues and challenges faced by sanitation workers and daily-wage employees across various government departments, noted social activist and writer Abdul Quddir Kundria strongly appealed to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir to immediately regularize all daily-wage workers serving in the Jal Shakti Department (PHE), Power Development Department (PDD), Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Tourism Department, sanitation services, and other government departments.
Addressing the gathering, Kundria said that the economic condition of these employees and sanitation workers has deteriorated significantly. Many families are struggling to meet their basic needs, with several unable to afford two meals a day. Children are suffering due to poverty and a lack of essential necessities, while numerous households are facing severe financial hardship, causing immense mental and emotional stress among workers.
He further stated that many daily-wage employees have spent decades serving various departments but have yet to be granted permanent status. Several workers have reached the age of sixty and retired without being regularized, while others passed away waiting for their long-pending demand for permanent employment to be fulfilled.
Abdul Quddir Kundria urged the Jammu & Kashmir Government to take a compassionate and serious view of the genuine grievances and demands of these workers. He called for their immediate regularization so that they may enjoy the benefits, security, and welfare provisions available to regular government employees under the Constitution of India and provide a dignified life for their families.
He emphasized that these employees have made valuable contributions to public services over the years and deserve recognition, job security, and social protection for their dedicated service.
