JAMMU, May 16: Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing, Jammu proudly organised the 1st UT Level Nursing Summit 2026 with remarkable enthusiasm, academic excellence, and professional commitment. Taking a significant initiative towards the advancement of nursing education and healthcare practices, Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing successfully conducted the summit and made it a grand success through dedicated planning, coordination, and active participation from professionals and students across various institutions in J&K.
The summit served as a prestigious platform for nursing professionals, educators, healthcare experts, and students to exchange knowledge, discuss modern healthcare challenges, and explore innovative approaches in nursing education and practice.
The grand event commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting by the distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Dean, Life Sciences, University of Jammu and Rector, Udhampur Campus; Dr. Dharminder Magotra, Director, CDC, University of Jammu; Dr. Sandeep Singh, Registrar, JKNC; M.S. Katoch, Chairman, Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing; Abhimanyu Katoch, Managing Director, Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing; and Anjana Bavouria, Director, Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing.
The auspicious ceremony symbolised the spirit of knowledge, wisdom, and dedication towards the noble nursing profession. The formal welcome address was delivered by Anjana Bavouria, Director, RGCN, who warmly welcomed all guests, delegates, faculty members and participants. In her address, she emphasized the importance of continuous learning, professional competency and innovation in the field of nursing to meet the growing healthcare demands of society.
The keynote address by Prof. Tariq Ahmed Dev, Professor-cum-Vice Principal, RGCN, highlighted the evolving role of nurses as leaders, caregivers, educators and advocates in the healthcare system.
He motivated the students and professionals to continuously upgrade their skills and remain committed to ethical and compassionate patient care.
The summit was further enriched by inspiring speeches from Chief Guest Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Guest of Honour Dr. Dharminder Magotra, and Special Guest Dr. Sandeep Singh.
The dignitaries appreciated the efforts and initiative of Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing for organising such a visionary academic summit and encouraged nursing professionals to contribute actively towards quality healthcare services and research-based practice.
The scientific sessions of the summit were highly informative, interactive, and intellectually stimulating, receiving active participation from delegates and students. The first scientific session on “Evidence Based Nursing Practice in Current Scenario” was delivered by Dr. Amandeep Kaur Bajwa, Professor-cum-Vice Principal, SGRD College of Nursing, Amritsar. She elaborated on the significance of integrating research evidence with clinical expertise to improve patient outcomes and nursing efficiency.
The session provided valuable insights into modern evidence-based interventions and encouraged nurses to adopt scientific approaches in clinical practice.
The session was skillfully moderated by Prof. Khema Peshion, who facilitated an engaging academic discussion.
The second scientific session on “Patient Safety and Quality Improvement” was conducted by Dr. Pity Koul, Ex-Director, School of Health Sciences, IGNOU and Emeritus Professor at Sharda University. The speaker highlighted the importance of maintaining patient safety standards, reducing healthcare errors, and promoting quality healthcare delivery systems. Real-life examples and practical strategies shared during the session made it highly enriching and impactful for the audience.
The session was effectively moderated by Johny Kutty Joseph, Assistant Professor and HOD MHN, SMVDCON.
The third scientific session on “Innovation in Nursing Education” was delivered by Prof. Anushi Singh, Department of Community Health Nursing, TMU, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The session focused on modern teaching methodologies, digital learning platforms, simulation-based education, and innovative practices that can strengthen nursing education in the present era. The audience highly appreciated the session for its practical and futuristic approach towards nursing academics.
The session was moderated by Prof. Frank J.C., Professor-cum-Principal, Bee Enn College of Nursing.
The fourth scientific session on “Leadership and Management in Nursing” was presented by Dr. Suman Vashist, HOD, Mental Health Nursing, TMU, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The speaker emphasized the importance of leadership qualities, decision-making abilities, teamwork, communication skills, and professional accountability in nursing administration and healthcare management. The session inspired students and professionals to develop leadership competencies essential for effective healthcare services. The session was moderated by Prof. Tariq Ahmed Dev, Professor-cum-Vice Principal, RGCN.
The sessions concluded with the presentation of mementos to the resource person and moderator by the dignitaries as a gesture of gratitude and appreciation for sharing their expertise and knowledge.
The valedictory session of the summit was graced by Dr. Sandeep Singh, Registrar, JK Nursing Council, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. (Dr.) Pity Koul, Ex-Director, School of Health Sciences, IGNOU and Emeritus Professor at Sharda University, as the Guest of Honour. Their gracious presence and inspiring words added immense value to the concluding ceremony and motivated the participants towards professional excellence, innovation, and dedicated service in the field of nursing.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Shrista Sotra, Nursing Tutor, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, resource persons, moderators, faculty members, organizing committee members, delegates, and participants for their valuable contribution towards the grand success of the summit.
