Young athletes shine in District Inter-School Sports Competitions at Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, May 16: The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Udhampur organized the District Level Inter-School Competitions for U/14 and U/17 Boys, witnessing enthusiastic participation from young athletes across the district.

The competitions were held under the patronage of Director General Youth Services and Sports, UT J&K, Anuradha Gupta, with the aim of promoting sports culture, physical fitness and healthy competition among school students.

The event featured competitions in Fencing, Shooting, Basketball, Netball and Cycling, attracting a total of 194 participants, including 70 students in the U/14 category and 124 students in the U/17 category. The competitions were conducted in a disciplined and competitive atmosphere under the supervision of technical officials and departmental staff.

Trials for Basketball in both U/14 and U/17 categories were also conducted at Subash Stadium for the selection of district teams for upcoming inter-district competitions.

In the fencing events, young players displayed impressive talent and determination. In Fencing Epee U/14 Boys, Dakash Mahajan of India Kids Udhampur secured the first position, followed by Swayam Sanotra of DPS Udhampur and Satvik Sharma of Edu-Bridge Udhampur. In the U/17 category, Daksh Verma of Happy Model HSS Udhampur clinched first place in Epee, while Rohan Prasher of JK Public School Udhampur emerged winner in Foil and Shivansh Bamotra of APS Udhampur secured top honours in Sabre.

Similarly, in the U/14 Fencing Foil event, Arvind Sharma of DPS Udhampur bagged the first position, while Suryansh Sharma of APS Udhampur won the Sabre category. Participants showcased remarkable sportsmanship, dedication and competitive spirit throughout the competitions.

The cycling competitions also witnessed keen contests among the participants. In the U/14 Boys category, Abhijeet Singh and Tanush Dev Singh, both from Little Flower Convent High School Udhampur, secured first and second positions respectively. In the U/17 category, Akshay Goria of HSS Udhampur Boys claimed the top position, followed by Rahul Goria, while Naresh Singh of Little Flower Convent High School Udhampur secured third place.

The Department of Youth Services and Sports reiterated its commitment to providing opportunities and competitive platforms for budding athletes to excel at higher levels. Officials stated that such competitions will continue to be organized as part of the department’s annual calendar activities to encourage sportsmanship and holistic development among students across District Udhampur.
