THANNAMANDI, Sep 30: Government Degree College (GDC) Thannamandi successfully concluded a series of awareness and sensitization activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), conducted in compliance with the prescribed government activity schedule for the period September 16 to 30, 2026.
The entire series of activities was conducted under the leadership and guidance of the College Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad, with the active contribution and coordinated efforts of the NMBA Committee, led by its Convener, Dr. Ather Aziz Raina. The committee members, including Prof. Rumy Dar, Dr. Nagina Kousser, Prof. Rizwana Kousar, Dr. Mohd. Ashrif, Prof. Yasmine Koser, Dr. Shazia Paswal and Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, played an active role in successfully organising the scheduled programmes.
The concluding programme was conducted by Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, Member, NMBA Committee, and was attended by around 100 students. The programme focused on drug-abuse prevention, rehabilitation, legal awareness and the role of young people in building a drug-free society.
She emphasised that young people possess the ability to shape their future through focus, discipline, positive choices and perseverance. She encouraged students to remain committed to their aspirations, avoid substance abuse and use their time and abilities constructively to achieve their dreams and contribute positively to society.
Dr. Ather Aziz Raina, Convener, NMBA, while addressing the gathering, stressed the importance of sustained awareness initiatives and active student participation in the fight against substance abuse. He encouraged students to volunteer and become responsible ambassadors of the drug-free India campaign, carrying the message of awareness from the college to their families and communities.
The Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad, appreciated the efforts of the NMBA Committee and the active participation of students. He highlighted the significant role of young people in creating awareness and bringing positive change in society, and encouraged students to act as responsible citizens and role models for others.
The event was attended by all the members of the NMBA committee. Other dignitaries present at the event were Dr. Nazakat Hussain, Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Dr. Mohd. Ashaq, Dr Wahid Ahmed, Dr. Mussarat Jabeen and Gulnishat. The series reflected the college’s continued commitment to sensitising students, promoting responsible citizenship and strengthening collective efforts towards a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
