JAMMU, Sep 30: Under the aegis of the Viksit Bharat initiative, The Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies in collaboration with the NSS Units of GGM Science College, Jammu, organised a district-level symposium on “Truth and Non-Violence” at the Conference Hall of the college.
The symposium was organised as part of the initiative to promote the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, truth, non-violence, peace and harmony among the youth. GGM Science College was among the institutions organising district-level symposiums on the theme in district Jammu.
A total of 12 students representing different colleges of Jammu district participated in the symposium and presented their views on the contemporary relevance of truth and non-violence. The participants engaged in thoughtful deliberations on the role of Gandhian values in promoting social harmony, peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship.The jury included Dr. Sandhya Bhardwaj, Associate Professor (Retd.)in English and Meenu Padha,Advocate Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Highcourt .
Saksham Dhariwal of Sem – 5 ,GGM Science College , Jammu secured the first position in the symposium. The winner Saksham Dhariwal was declared as “Shanti Doot” (Ambassador of Peace) during the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, thus encouraging young people to become ambassadors of peace, harmony and non-violence.
The programme was held under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, GGM Science College, Jammu, and coordinated by Dr. Seema Rani Minhas, Convenor, Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies. Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta emphasised the enduring relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy in contemporary times. He encouraged students to imbibe the values of truth, tolerance, empathy and non-violence and to become responsible citizens contributing towards a peaceful and progressive society. The programme was graced by the presence of Dr. Vandana Khajuria, HOD , English.
Dr. Seema Rani Minhas highlighted the importance of engaging young minds in dialogue on peace and conflict resolution. She stated that initiatives such as the symposium provide students with an opportunity to understand and promote Gandhian values in their everyday lives.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the college’s commitment to nurturing peace, harmony, non-violence and responsible citizenship among youth, in keeping with the spirit of the Viksit Bharat initiative. The proceedings were coordinated by Dr. Shalini Sharma(NSS PO) , Dr. Suresh Sharma, Dr. Neha Sharma, Dr.Sunita Kumari, Dr. Ram Krishan, Dr. Mehnaz Bano. The proceeding and welcome address was presented by Dr. Sunita Kumari.
