JAMMU, Sep 30: The Inter-Collegiate Hockey (Men) Tournament 2026-27, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, concluded at the Jammu University Hockey Field with GDC Poonch emerging as the champions.
In the third-position match, MBS College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, defeated GDC Kathua 2-1. Tejpal Singh scored both goals for MBS College in the 15th and 48th minutes, while Mandeep Singh scored the lone goal for GDC Kathua in the 32nd minute.
M.S. Reen, International Hockey Umpire, was the Chief Guest of the third-position match. He was introduced to the players and officials in the presence of Dr. Taran Singh, General Secretary, Hockey J&K.
In the final, GDC Poonch registered a convincing 5-1 victory over the PG Department, University of Jammu. Dhruv Sharma was the star performer, scoring three goals in the 12th, 27th and 46th minutes. Tanvir Ahmed and Gamanpreet Singh added one goal each in the 41st and 55th minutes, respectively. Gurpreet Singh scored the only goal for the PG Department JU team in the 40th minute.
Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, witnessed both matches along with the Chief Guest and guests of honour.
Rajiv Sharma, President, Tennikoit Federation of India, Patron-in-Chief, Hockey J&K and former Member of J&K Sports Council, was the Chief Guest at the final. He presented medals and the winner’s trophy along with guests of honour Vijay Saraf, Kuldeep Magotra and Kuldeep Gupta.
The matches were officiated by Jagjit Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Karanjeet Singh, Harvinder Pal Singh, Rishav Sharma, Chanveer Singh, Saval Ahmed and Sukhchinder Singh under the technical supervision of PD Singh, Hockey Coach, Jammu University.
