JAMMU, Aug 6: Senior BJP leader and former Sarpanch, Adv. Devraj Sharma, today strongly welcomed the Government of India’s decision to introduce key amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. Describing the move as a visionary and far-reaching reform under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said the proposed amendments would significantly strengthen the country’s legal framework to regulate foreign contributions while ensuring greater transparency, accountability and national security.
Addressing media persons, Adv. Sharma said that the proposed amendments reflect the Union Government’s unwavering commitment to protecting India’s sovereignty and ensuring that foreign contributions are received and utilized only for genuine developmental, charitable and humanitarian purposes. He observed that stricter regulation of foreign funding has become essential in the present global environment, where financial flows from external sources can sometimes be misused to influence institutions, disrupt social harmony or undermine national interests.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently demonstrated a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, financial irregularities and activities that threaten the integrity of the nation. According to him, the latest amendments are another milestone in the Government’s larger vision of establishing a transparent and accountable governance system where every financial transaction is subject to proper scrutiny and legal oversight.
Adv. Sharma stated that for many years there had been growing concerns regarding the misuse of foreign contributions by certain organisations and individuals. He remarked that while genuine non-governmental organisations engaged in social welfare, education, healthcare, environmental protection and humanitarian service have nothing to fear, those attempting to misuse foreign funds for unlawful or anti-national purposes must be brought under a robust regulatory framework.
“The Modi Government has always believed that transparency is the cornerstone of good governance. Every rupee entering the country through foreign contributions must be accounted for and utilized strictly for the purpose for which it has been received. The proposed amendments will strengthen public confidence and reinforce accountability in the functioning of organisations receiving foreign funds,” he said.
The senior BJP leader further observed that the amendments would improve monitoring mechanisms, close existing loopholes and make compliance more effective without discouraging legitimate social service initiatives. He said the Government has struck a balanced approach by facilitating genuine charitable work while simultaneously preventing misuse of foreign contributions for activities contrary to India’s constitutional values and national interests.
Adv. Sharma said that India’s emergence as a strong and self-confident global power requires robust institutions, transparent financial systems and effective safeguards against unlawful financial influence. He asserted that the FCRA amendments are fully aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat and reflect the Government’s determination to build a secure, accountable and corruption-free ecosystem.
He also praised the Union Government for continuously introducing reforms that strengthen democratic institutions, improve governance and enhance public trust. According to him, the Modi Government has repeatedly shown that national interest remains paramount in every policy decision, whether related to economic reforms, internal security or financial regulation.
Calling upon all political parties to rise above partisan considerations, Adv. Sharma urged them to support the proposed amendments in Parliament in the larger interest of the nation. He said matters concerning national security, financial transparency and institutional integrity should unite all stakeholders irrespective of political affiliations.
