JAMMU, May 29: As a part of the pre-celebration activities of World Environment Day 2026, the Eco Club “Amrita” of Government Degree College Ramgarh organized an awareness lecture on environmental conservation under the able guidance of the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol.
The programme was organized with the objective of sensitizing students and members of the local community about the importance of environmental protection and sustainable living. The theme for World Environment Day 2026, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, was highlighted during the event.
Dr. Shivali Panjgotra, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and Convener of Eco Club “Amrita”, delivered an informative lecture on the importance of the environment for human survival. She highlighted that basic necessities such as air, water, and food are obtained from the environment, which is increasingly being polluted by human activities. She also discussed environmental challenges and encouraged students and community members to adopt eco-friendly practices such as tree plantation, reducing pollution, conserving water, and minimizing waste to protect the environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol appreciated the efforts of the Eco Club in organizing such awareness programmes and highlighted the need for collective responsibility in protecting the environment for present and future generations. She encouraged students to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives and become responsible citizens.
Prof. Brahm Dutt also addressed the gathering and highlighted how Indian culture and traditions promote environmental conservation. He emphasized that respect for nature is deeply rooted in our culture and stressed that reconnecting with our traditions is essential for protecting the environment.He remarked that if we truly wish to conserve the environment, we must reconnect with the principles of sustainability embedded in our traditions and culture.
The programme witnessed the presence of faculty members including Mr. Ashok Kumar and Prof. Sandeep Kumari. Members from the local community and students actively participated in the programme and were made aware about environmental issues and sustainable solutions.The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Brahm Dutt, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, students, and local community members for making the programme successful.
