JAMMU, Oct 26: On the auspicious occasion of Purnima, Sadguru Shri Madhu Paramhans Ji Maharaj of the Sahib Bandagi tradition delivered a spiritual discourse at Ranjri, Jammu, urging devotees to reflect on the origins of anger, greed, lust, attachment and ego, which he described as major obstacles to spiritual growth and inner peace.
Addressing the congregation, Sadguru Madhu Paramhans Ji Maharaj raised a fundamental question: where do these negative tendencies originate within a human being, and why do they sometimes overpower a person’s wisdom and sense of right and wrong?
He explained that lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego were the five root causes behind many wrongful actions in the world. Comparing their influence to clouds obscuring the sunlight, he said these tendencies conceal the inherent light of the soul and prevent individuals from recognising their true spiritual nature.
Reflecting on disturbing incidents of violence and crimes against children, the Sadguru urged people to question whether such acts could ever be considered consistent with the true nature of the soul. He observed that saints, sages, meditators and spiritual thinkers had described the soul as inherently pure, while destructive actions arose from forces that clouded human understanding and consciousness.
He explained that when these negative tendencies take control, a person’s wisdom, awareness and ability to make sound decisions can become severely affected. Comparing their influence to an unseen force that takes possession of an individual, he said people might fail to recognise the consequences of their actions until after committing wrongdoing.
The Sadguru further observed that even individuals who possess considerable knowledge, discipline or spiritual experience could become vulnerable to these tendencies. When the intellect is clouded, he said, a person may lose the ability to resist harmful impulses and later experience regret over their actions.
He emphasised the importance of understanding the subtle influence of these inner adversaries and remaining vigilant about one’s thoughts, behaviour and intentions.
Explaining the spiritual solution, Sadguru Madhu Paramhans Ji Maharaj stated that liberation from these negative forces could be achieved through Saar Naam, the essential divine Name bestowed by a true Saint or Sadguru.
He stressed the importance of spiritual guidance and devotion in helping individuals overcome destructive tendencies, develop inner awareness and move towards a more disciplined and spiritually conscious life.
The discourse encouraged devotees to reflect on their conduct, recognise the influence of negative emotions and seek spiritual understanding to cultivate peace, self-control and moral responsibility.
Through his message on Purnima, Sadguru Madhu Paramhans Ji Maharaj highlighted the importance of inner transformation, presenting spiritual practice as a means of overcoming negative tendencies and reconnecting with the inherent light of the soul.
