VIJAYPUR, Oct 26: BJP District General Secretary Amit Dubey on Monday criticised the Congress leadership over what he described as objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding an unconditional apology from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leader Rahul Gandhi.
Dubey said the Prime Minister occupies a high constitutional office and that its dignity must be respected, irrespective of political differences. He maintained that while the Opposition has every democratic right to question government policies, criticise decisions and contest elections, personal attacks and derogatory language undermine the dignity of political discourse.
Reacting to the alleged incident in Patna involving the assault of a person who was raising slogans in support of Prime Minister Modi, Dubey said every citizen in a democracy has the right to express political views and demonstrate support for a political leader. He asserted that targeting or assaulting individuals because of their political beliefs was contrary to democratic principles.
Dubey alleged that the Congress was moving away from democratic traditions and attempting to replace democratic debate with what he termed “mobocracy.” He said political disagreements should be addressed through dialogue, constitutional means and peaceful expression rather than personal attacks or intimidation.
He further claimed that the public would not accept such political conduct and asserted that confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership continued to grow.
Referring to the Congress party’s political position in Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar, Dubey claimed that its weakening electoral base reflected a growing disconnect with the public. He urged the party leadership to introspect on its language, conduct and political approach.
Dubey emphasised that democratic institutions could function effectively only when political parties respected constitutional values, freedom of expression and mutual respect.
He reiterated his demand for an apology from Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, urging the Congress leadership to uphold political decorum and ensure that criticism remained focused on policies and governance rather than personal attacks.
