No deserving family will be left out of PMAY benefits, fresh verification underway in Anantnag: ACD

ANANTNAG, Jun 10: The district administration in Anantnag has assured residents that no deserving family will be deprived of benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), even as a fresh verification drive is being conducted across the district to ensure transparency and accuracy in the beneficiary selection process.

Addressing concerns regarding the deletion of names from PMAY beneficiary lists, Additional Commissioner Development (ACD) Anantnag, Shafiq Ahmad Wani, said that around 13,000 names were removed from the PMAY portal during the verification process carried out in accordance with the scheme’s guidelines.

Wani acknowledged that some genuinely deserving individuals from different panchayat halqas may have been inadvertently excluded during the exercise. However, he emphasized that no eligible beneficiary would be denied assistance and that all deserving cases would be reconsidered after proper verification.

“There is no need for deserving beneficiaries to worry. Any individual found eligible under the prescribed guidelines will receive the benefit of the scheme,” he said.

To ensure fairness and transparency, the administration has launched a comprehensive verification campaign across all blocks and panchayat halqas of the district. Special teams have been deployed to conduct door-to-door surveys and physical verification of beneficiaries. The exercise is aimed at identifying genuine cases, rectifying discrepancies and ensuring that deserving families are not left out of the housing scheme.

The ACD said that beneficiary lists are currently undergoing detailed scrutiny and that strict action will be taken to remove ineligible names. He clarified that individuals who already own pucca houses or do not fulfill the eligibility criteria will not be allowed to avail benefits under PMAY.

“Those who already have permanent houses and do not qualify under the scheme will not receive assistance, irrespective of any recommendations made in their favour. PMAY is meant exclusively for poor, homeless and genuinely deserving families,” Wani asserted.

He appealed to the public to cooperate with verification teams and report any errors or irregularities in the lists. Reiterating the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Wani said the ongoing exercise is intended to restore public confidence in the scheme and ensure that government assistance reaches only eligible beneficiaries.

The assurance comes amid concerns raised in several areas regarding the exclusion of certain names from PMAY lists. Officials maintain that the verification process will ensure that every deserving household is included while ineligible applicants are excluded strictly in accordance with established rules and guidelines.
