SRINAGAR, Aug 24 (Agencies): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has no role in the recently approved 6.8 per cent increase in electricity tariffs, National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, describing the revision as part of a normal regulatory process.
“JK Govt has no role in tariff hike by JERC; it is a normal process that has been ongoing and will continue,” Dar said.
He also claimed that electricity tariffs in Jammu and Kashmir remain lower than those in any northern state.
The 6.8 per cent tariff increase approved by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has drawn criticism from the public and opposition parties, who have questioned the impact of higher power charges on consumers.
Dar’s remarks come amid the ongoing debate over the revised electricity tariffs and the financial burden they may place on consumers in Jammu and Kashmir.
