SRINAGAR, Nov 3 (Agencies): Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience light rainfall and snowfall over higher reaches around November 5 as a weak Western Disturbance approaches the region, while another weather system is expected around November 10 and 11, Meteorological Department Director Mukhtar Ahmad said today.
Speaking about the prevailing weather conditions, Ahmad said partly cloudy skies were expected towards Monday evening, with the first Western Disturbance likely to bring light precipitation to isolated places.
“A weak Western Disturbance is approaching around November 5. There are chances of light rain at a few places and light snowfall over some higher reaches,” he said.
The weather is expected to remain dry from after this system until around November 9.
Another weak to moderate Western Disturbance is likely to approach between November 10 and 11, bringing the possibility of light rain and snowfall in some areas.
“Some higher-altitude areas of north and central Kashmir may receive light snowfall. Light rainfall is also possible in a few districts of the Valley and Jammu division,” Ahmad said.
There are also chances of isolated thundershowers around November 10 and 11. However, he said no significant weather activity was expected at present.
Meanwhile, temperatures are gradually declining and are likely to fall further in the coming days.
“Winter has almost set in,” Ahmad said, adding that slightly hazy conditions had been observed during early morning hours.
He said shallow fog was currently being observed over the plains and reduced visibility could become an issue in the coming days and weeks.
On agricultural activities, Ahmad advised farmers to continue harvesting and other field operations.
“Harvesting should continue for the time being. Other field operations, including fresh sowing, threshing and field preparation, can also continue,” he said.
He also advised travellers to strictly follow traffic advisories while travelling.
