SRINAGAR, Oct 18: Syed Saleem Gilani, President of the JK United Peoples Alliance, has emphasised the urgent need to facilitate the dignified, safe, and honourable return of the Kashmiri Pandit community to their ancestral homeland in Kashmir.
Gilani stated that Kashmiri Pandits are an integral part of Kashmir’s historical, cultural, and social fabric. Their displacement has left a deep void in the Valley’s centuries-old tradition of communal harmony, mutual respect, and shared heritage.
He said that the return of the Kashmiri Pandit community should not remain merely a political promise but must become a sincere and collective commitment. Every effort must be made to create an atmosphere of security, trust, dignity, and confidence so that displaced families can return voluntarily and rebuild their lives with peace of mind.
“Kashmir is incomplete without its Kashmiri Pandit brothers and sisters. Their return to their ancestral homes is essential for restoring our shared heritage, strengthening communal harmony, and rebuilding the historic bond between all communities of Kashmir,” Gilani said.
The President of JK United Peoples Alliance called upon the government, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and political representatives to work together towards a comprehensive and practical roadmap for the return and rehabilitation of the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community.
He stressed that the process must address the genuine concerns of displaced families, including security, housing, employment, education, livelihood opportunities, and the protection of religious and cultural heritage.
Gilani further stated that the return must be voluntary, dignified, and based on the confidence of the community itself. Building trust between communities and promoting reconciliation are essential steps towards achieving lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
He appealed to people from all sections of society to rise above political differences and work collectively to restore Kashmir’s tradition of brotherhood, tolerance, and coexistence.
“Our vision is a peaceful and united Kashmir where every community feels safe, respected, and valued. The return of Kashmiri Pandits with honour and dignity would be a significant step towards healing historical wounds and strengthening the spirit of unity in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
The JK United Peoples Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to peace, reconciliation, communal harmony, and the protection of the rights and dignity of every citizen.
