JAMMU, May 28: Yuva Rajput Sabha-J&K (YRS) today staged a massive protest demonstration near Maharaja Hari Singh Bridge, Jammu, against the controversial remarks allegedly made by West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendhu Adhikari regarding cow slaughter. During the protest, activists and members of the Sabha raised strong slogans against the statement and burnt the effigy of Adhikari in protest.
A large number of youth, social activists and members of the Rajput community assembled near the Maharaja Hari Singh Bridge and expressed strong resentment over the remarks claiming that a cow can be slaughtered after the age of 14 years. Protestors described the statement as highly insensitive, irresponsible and deeply hurtful to the religious sentiments of millions of people across the country.
The protest demonstration was led by YRS President Mandeep Singh Rimpy along with former Presidents Rajan Singh Happy and Vikram Singh Vicky. The leaders stated that Cow is considered sacred in Indian culture and Hindu religion and any statement disrespecting its importance cannot be tolerated by society.
Addressing the gathering, YRS President Mandeep Singh Rimpy strongly condemned the remarks and said that certain political leaders are making irresponsible statements merely to gain publicity and create divisions in society. He stated that India is a country where cows are worshipped by crores of people and such comments directly hurt the faith and emotions of the public. Rimpy further said that Yuva Rajput Sabha will continue to raise its voice against every attempt aimed at insulting religious beliefs and cultural values.
Former YRS President Rajan Singh Happy, while speaking during the protest, said that leaders holding constitutional positions should act responsibly and avoid making statements that can disturb communal harmony and public sentiments. He said that such remarks are unacceptable and demanded a public apology for hurting the sentiments of people across the nation. He further appealed to the youth to remain united in safeguarding the country’s cultural and religious heritage.
Former President Vikram Singh Vicky also addressed the protestors and said that India has always been known for respecting all religions, traditions and beliefs, and no individual should be allowed to spread controversy through insensitive remarks. He said that YRS strongly condemned every attempt to insult the religious sentiments attached with Cow and warned against politics that promotes division and disrespect.
The protestors raised slogans demanding strict action and urged public representatives to maintain dignity while making public statements. The Sabha also appealed to all communities to maintain peace, unity and brotherhood while firmly opposing controversial and divisive remarks.
At the end of the demonstration, the effigy of Subhendhu Adhikari was burnt as a mark of protest and the members reiterated their commitment towards protecting cultural and religious values.
