BHADARWAH, Aug 6: Promoting healthy ageing and the welfare of the elderly, the Tehsil Social Welfare Office in collaboration with the Health Department organized an awareness cum medical camp for senior citizens here on Thursday.
Held under the guidance of District Social Welfare Officer Doda, Zubair Ahmad, the programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior citizens across the Sub-Division Bhaderwah alongside representatives from the Health Department, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), the Information Department and the media.
Welcoming the participants, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Bhaderwah Shahnawaz Ahmad delivered an informative address detailing various central and local government welfare initiatives tailored for senior citizens. He sensitized the participants about their statutory entitlements and underscored the vital importance of elder care and societal respect.
“Society must ensure that our senior citizens continue to live with dignity, security and honour,” Ahmad said, appealing to the community to uphold familial and social responsibilities towards the elderly.
Resource persons at the event elaborated on the key provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 educating participants on their legal rights and the corresponding legal obligations of children and family members.
As part of the outreach, a specialized medical team comprising Dr. Sheenam, Dr. Rahat, Dr. Kamaldeep and Dr. Yasir conducted comprehensive health screenings. Beneficiaries underwent free diagnostic checks including blood pressure and blood sugar assessments received expert medical consultations and were provided with free pharmaceutical supplies.
During an interactive grievance redressal session, senior citizens raised several welfare related concerns and sought administrative guidance. The Tehsil Social Welfare Officer assured them of prompt assistance and reiterated the department’s firm commitment to resolving genuine grievances.
The initiative drew widespread appreciation from the local populace who commended the collaborative efforts of the Social Welfare and Health departments. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks.
