Unemployment pushing J&K youth towards despair and drug menace: Vakar Rasool

Centre and J&K UT Govts have betrayed public expectations: Tara Chand

JOURIAN, May 23: Senior Congress leaders on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Central and Jammu & Kashmir UT Governments over rising unemployment, inflation and deteriorating public infrastructure, asserting that the growing job crisis in the Union Territory has become a “serious curse” for the youth.

The remarks were made during a massive public programme organised by the Chaamb and Akhnoor Congress units at Municipal Committee Hall, Jourian, in connection with the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan – Phase II launched by the All India Congress Committee to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Addressing the gathering, senior Congress leader and former JKPCC President Vakar Rasool Wani expressed grave concern over the lack of employment opportunities for educated and technically qualified youth in Jammu and Kashmir. He alleged that successive failures of the government to generate jobs have pushed many young people towards frustration and social evils.

“Unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir has become a serious curse for the youth. The government has failed to provide adequate employment avenues, and many youngsters, feeling hopeless and neglected, are falling prey to the drug mafia,” Wani said.He also raised concerns over the alleged NEET examination paper leak issue, stating that repeated incidents of paper leaks have shattered the dreams of lakhs of hardworking students across the country.“The repeated compromise of competitive examinations has deeply disheartened deserving aspirants who prepare honestly with the hope of securing their future through merit,” he added.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and JKPCC Working President Tara Chand, while addressing the gathering, thanked the delegates from Chaamb and Akhnoor for attending the programme in large numbers despite the scorching heat.Launching a sharp critique of both the Central and UT Governments, Tara Chand said the present dispensation has failed to address the everyday concerns of common people and contrasted it with what he described as the “golden era” of Congress governance.

“During the Congress regime, the government remained accessible to the common people and worked sincerely to resolve their issues. Several employment-oriented schemes like RET, REZ and REK were introduced, providing livelihood opportunities to lakhs of unemployed youth,” he said.He further alleged that roads across the region are in a dilapidated condition while the prices of essential commodities continue to rise unchecked, putting immense pressure on ordinary families.

During the programme, delegates from Chaamb and Akhnoor unanimously resolved to continue with the existing Block Presidents by raising hands in support. The Block Presidents were later felicitated and garlanded by Vakar Rasool Wani and Tara Chand in the presence of a large gathering of Congress workers and delegates. The meeting also resolved to continue the present organisational structure of the party, including the Block Level Committees, while delegates recommended several names for inclusion in the District Congress Committee Jammu (Rural).
