KATHUA, May 16: The Department of Youth Services and Sports Kathua successfully concluded the Inter-Zone District Level Tournament for U-14 Boys and Girls in Kathua amid great enthusiasm and sporting spirit. Young athletes from different zones of the district participated actively and showcased their talent, discipline, teamwork and determination throughout the competitions.
The tournament featured competitions in Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Chess and Badminton. Participants displayed remarkable sportsmanship and competitive spirit, making the event a grand success.
In the finals, the Upper Zone dominated several disciplines. In Kabaddi, the Upper Zone boys defeated the Lower Zone by 20 points, while the girls’ team secured victory by 13 points. In Kho-Kho, the Upper Zone boys registered a 2-point win and the girls defeated the Lower Zone by 4 points.
In Volleyball, the Lower Zone boys outplayed the Upper Zone with a convincing 2-0 victory in sets, while the Upper Zone girls emerged victorious against the Lower Zone by 2-0 sets. In Chess and Badminton competitions, the Lower Zone teams delivered outstanding performances and defeated the Upper Zone teams.
Officials of the Department appreciated the efforts of all participating athletes, technical staff and field officials for ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament. They stated that such sporting events play an important role in promoting physical fitness, discipline, confidence and team spirit among young students.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports further reiterated its commitment towards encouraging and nurturing sports talent at the grassroots level through regular tournaments and sporting activities across the district.
