Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society raises civic issues with JMC Health Officer

JAMMU, Jun 7: The Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society (TNWS) organized an interaction meeting with newly appointed Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Col. Shahid Hussain, at the Society office in Main Market, Trikuta Nagar. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of TNWS President Rajinder P. Kakkar and witnessed the participation of a large number of residents and society members.

The visiting officer was welcomed with a bouquet and the chanting of the Gayatri Mantra. President Rajinder P. Kakkar introduced the office bearers and executive members of the Society and briefed the Health Officer about the activities and functioning of TNWS, which has been serving the residents of Trikuta Nagar since its establishment.

During the interactive session, residents raised several civic issues affecting the locality. A major concern highlighted was the misuse of vacant plots as garbage dumping sites. The residents urged the JMC to take action against plot owners who have rented out premises without proper sanitation facilities, including septic tank systems, and to enforce strict compliance measures.

The issue of increasing stray dog population in the colony was also discussed. Residents expressed concern over frequent dog-bite incidents and the fear among women, senior citizens and school-going children. The Society suggested that the JMC identify suitable land for establishing ward-wise shelter homes for stray dogs in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines, enabling NGOs and animal welfare groups to care for them effectively.

The participants also appreciated the efforts of JMC field staff but stressed the need to strengthen manpower and provide workers with uniforms, hand carts and other necessary equipment. They demanded daily garbage collection and better communication regarding collection timings through social and print media to facilitate proper waste disposal by residents.

Another issue raised was the need for installation of CCTV cameras at key locations to curb illegal dumping of garbage and ensure strict action against violators. The Society also recommended stricter monitoring of sanitation charges and proper registration of tenants for separate waste collection fee assessments.

Col. Shahid Hussain patiently heard the concerns and assured residents that their issues would be addressed on priority. He noted down details of complainants for follow-up action and joined the TNWS WhatsApp group to monitor civic issues regularly. He appealed for patience, citing the ongoing sanitation workers’ strike, and assured that under the guidance of JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, efforts would be made to resolve public grievances at the earliest.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks presented by the General Secretary of TNWS.
