JAMMU, May 19: A massive joint meeting and peaceful demonstration of transporters and bus owners associated with the Jammu–Chamb Passenger Bus Service was held today at Warehouse, Jammu, where a large number of transporters, stakeholders and media representatives participated to deliberate upon issues concerning the smooth functioning and democratic management of the Jammu–Chamb transport operations.
During the meeting, the majority of transporters expressed serious concern over the non-conduct of elections since 2021 after the expiry of the previous tenure and resolved to safeguard the uninterrupted functioning of public transport services on the Jammu–Chamb routes.
With overwhelming majority support, owners and operators representing 149 buses out of the total operational strength of 224 buses unanimously nominated Babu Singh Manhas as President of the Jammu–Chamb Passenger Bus Service to ensure smooth day-to-day functioning, operational coordination and protection of the interests of genuine transporters as well as the travelling public.
The transporters also constituted a five-member Working Committee to oversee operational management, maintenance of departure charts and timings, equitable allotment of routes, passenger convenience and coordination with transport authorities.
The gathering strongly resolved that no unauthorized individual, private body or cooperative society would be allowed to interfere in the lawful operational affairs and chart management of the Jammu–Chamb Passenger Bus Service.
The transporters also expressed apprehension regarding possible obstruction and unlawful interference by certain vested interests and asserted that they would take appropriate legal recourse for protection of the smooth functioning of transport operations and maintenance of peace.
