KATHUA, Sep 2: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) organized a Consumer Outreach Programme at Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, on September 2, 2026, with the objective of creating awareness among students and faculty members about telecommunications, internet, broadcasting and consumer-related services.
The programme witnessed active participation from representatives of various telecom service providers, including BSNL, Airtel and Vodafone, who interacted with students and faculty members and shared useful information regarding telecom and internet services. TRAI officials apprised participants about consumer rights, available services, grievance-redressal mechanisms and other important aspects related to telecommunications and broadcasting.
The interactive session provided students an opportunity to raise questions and seek clarification on issues concerning internet connectivity, telecom services, consumer rights, quality of services and broadcasting facilities. TRAI officials responded to the queries and explained provisions and mechanisms available for safeguarding consumer interests.
More than 130 students, 40 faculty members and 30 representatives of telecom service providers, including BSNL, Vodafone, Airtel, Reliance and Jio, attended the programme and actively participated in the interaction.
Dr. Manohar Lal, Principal, GDC Kathua, was the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he appreciated TRAI’s initiative to reach out to educational institutions and emphasized the importance of creating awareness among young consumers about the responsible use of telecom and digital services and their rights as consumers.
Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Staff Secretary, formally welcomed the Chief Guest, TRAI officials, representatives of telecom service providers, faculty members and students. He also coordinated the programme and facilitated interaction between the participants and resource persons.
The programme was anchored by Dr. Meenakshi, HOD, BBA, who conducted the proceedings in a professional and engaging manner. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Sushil Kumar Bansal, Senior Research Officer, Regional Office, Delhi, TRAI, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, students and participating telecom service providers for their cooperation.
The programme proved highly informative and interactive, enhancing awareness among students and faculty members about telecom and broadcasting services, consumer rights and the role of TRAI in safeguarding consumer interests.
