SRS demands Re-verification of all POCSO cases in Jammu region

JAMMU, June 7: Shri Ram Sena (SRS) has demanded a comprehensive re-verification of all cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act across the Jammu region following recent developments in the Ramgarh case of Samba district.

SRS leaders said that the suspension of four police personnel, including the SHO of Ramgarh Police Station, over allegations of attempting to facilitate a compromise in a POCSO case has raised serious concerns about the handling of such sensitive matters. SSP Samba has ordered an inquiry into the matter and attached the suspended officials to District Police Lines pending investigation.

The organization stated that while strict action must be taken against those guilty of crimes against children, authorities should also ensure that investigations are conducted fairly, transparently and in accordance with the law. Mahajan argued that any procedural lapses or irregularities in POCSO investigations could undermine public confidence in the justice system.

The demand for re-verification comes amid wider national discussions regarding the proper implementation of the POCSO Act and concerns raised by courts about both effective prosecution and the possibility of misuse in certain cases.

Shri Ram Sena (SRS) UT president Rajiv Mahajan has urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration and police authorities to constitute a high-level committee to review POCSO cases in the Jammu region and ensure that justice is delivered to genuine victims while safeguarding due process and the rule of law.

The POCSO Act remains a crucial legal framework for protecting children from sexual offences, with dedicated fast-track courts established for the speedy trial of such cases across the country, including in Jammu and Kashmir.
