JAMMU, Jun 29: The sporting community of Jammu & Kashmir has welcomed the recently issued list of Outstanding Sportspersons under the SO-12 Sports Policy, describing it as a transparent, fair, and merit-based initiative that reinforces athletes’ confidence in the selection process.
In a joint statement, members of the sporting fraternity expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Hon’ble Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, and the officers and officials of the Youth Services & Sports Department, the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, and other concerned administrative departments for their vision, guidance, and commitment towards the welfare and recognition of deserving sportspersons across the Union Territory.
The community said that the publication of the list under the SO-12 Sports Policy demonstrates the Government’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and recognition based solely on merit. According to the statement, the selection process was conducted strictly in accordance with the notified Sports Policy and the prescribed eligibility criteria, ensuring that every application was examined on the basis of official records, recognized sporting achievements, and the applicable rules governing the policy.
It was further stated that the final list is the outcome of an objective and transparent evaluation process, guaranteeing equal opportunity and fair treatment to all eligible candidates. The sporting fraternity appreciated the Government for upholding the principles of justice and ensuring that deserving athletes receive recognition for their dedication, discipline, and outstanding performances.
The statement noted that such initiatives strengthen the confidence of athletes in the system and encourage greater participation in sports while fostering a culture of excellence throughout Jammu & Kashmir. It added that consistent recognition of genuine achievers motivates young sportspersons to pursue excellence and represent the Union Territory with distinction at national and international levels.
Expressing concern over certain misleading statements and unsubstantiated allegations made by a few individuals and self-styled social activists, the sporting community said such claims, made without evidence or proper understanding of the provisions of the Sports Policy, have the potential to create unnecessary confusion among athletes and the general public. While constructive criticism is an essential part of a democratic society, the statement emphasized that baseless allegations should not overshadow a transparent and rule-based administrative process.
The sporting community urged all stakeholders to focus on promoting genuine talent and supporting initiatives that uphold merit, integrity, and excellence in sports. It described the Government’s decision under the SO-12 Sports Policy as a significant milestone in strengthening the sports ecosystem of Jammu & Kashmir and called upon the public to support measures that encourage deserving athletes.
Reiterating its appreciation, the sporting community said the continued support of the Government and the sports administration has renewed confidence among athletes and created an environment where hard work, dedication, and sporting excellence receive the recognition they deserve.
