JAMMU, Jun 29: The All Daily Wagers Jammu & Kashmir Sangarsh Samiti has once again urged the Jammu & Kashmir Government to immediately implement the Minimum Wages Act and regularize the services of all eligible daily wage workers across the Union Territory, stating that thousands of workers continue to face financial insecurity and uncertainty despite repeated assurances.
In a statement issued here, the Samiti said it represents a broad spectrum of daily wage employees, including ASHA Workers, Mid-Day Meal Cooks, Land Donors, CPW Workers, Mali-cum-Chowkidars, Anganwadi Workers, Village Defence Guard (VDG) Workers, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Workers, Safai Karamcharis, PHE ITI Workers, Without-Pay Workers, Online Workers, and several other categories serving in different government departments.
The organization demanded the immediate implementation of the Minimum Wages Act for all daily wage workers, regularization of eligible employees, and the provision of fair wages, dignity, job security, and social security benefits. It asserted that these workers have been rendering essential services for years but continue to work under difficult conditions with inadequate wages and no assurance of permanent employment.
The Samiti expressed concern that despite repeated commitments by the Government over the years, the long-pending issues of daily wage workers remain unresolved. It said thousands of families dependent on these workers are facing severe financial hardship due to low wages, irregular payments, and the absence of employment security.
Calling for immediate intervention, the Samiti appealed to the Government to take concrete steps to address the genuine concerns of daily wage employees and ensure justice for those who have dedicated years of service in various departments.
Warning of intensified agitation, the Samiti stated that if the Government fails to resolve these issues at the earliest, it will strengthen its democratic movement across Jammu & Kashmir. It said workers, along with their families, will continue peaceful protests until their legitimate demands are met.
The Samiti reiterated that ensuring fair wages and regular employment would not only improve the livelihoods of thousands of workers but also strengthen public service delivery across the Union Territory. It urged the administration to honour its commitments and provide long-awaited relief to daily wage employees.
