SAI, STC Jammu celebrates National Sports Day

JAMMU, Aug 30: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sports Training Centre (STC), Jammu celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit on Friday, August 30, 2026, at M.A. Stadium, Jammu.

The programme was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand, whose outstanding contribution to Indian sports continues to inspire generations of athletes. National Sports Day is celebrated across the country in his honour, recognising his extraordinary legacy and contribution to Indian hockey.

As part of the celebrations, exciting Badminton and Volleyball matches were organised at the venue, witnessing enthusiastic participation from athletes, coaches, staff members and personnel of the 76th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The sporting activities promoted the values of fitness, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle among the participants.

Manish Kumar, Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS), Sports Officer, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He appreciated the efforts of the Sports Authority of India, Sports Training Centre, Jammu in promoting sports and encouraging young athletes to actively participate in physical and sporting activities.

The celebration was also attended by the Incharge, Sports Authority of India, Sports Training Centre, Jammu, along with coaches and staff members. Personnel of the 76th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force who actively participated in the event included Shri Ajeet Pal (AE), Inspector Baljit Singh, Sub-Inspector Neeraj Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohan Rajak, Assistant Sub-Inspector Bakar Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rohit Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Debabrata Ghosh.

The participants also expressed appreciation for the continued encouragement and inspiring message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards sports and fitness, which has motivated the youth of the country to adopt an active lifestyle and strive for excellence in various sporting disciplines.

The event served as a fitting tribute to Major Dhyan Chand and reflected the true spirit of National Sports Day. Participants were encouraged to make sports and physical activity an integral part of their daily lives and work towards achieving excellence in their respective fields.

The programme concluded with a collective message to uphold the values of discipline, dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship, inspired by the enduring legacy of Major Dhyan Chand.
