JAMMU, Jul 29: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri expressed concern over the recent protest held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, stating that the scenes witnessed during the demonstration were inconsistent with India’s cultural values and the standards expected from responsible citizens and future generations whom the nation banks upon.
Reacting to the developments, Suri said that while India, as the world’s largest democracy, guarantees every citizen the right to express dissent peacefully, this constitutional freedom must always be exercised with dignity, restraint, and respect for society. Everyone saw what happened there and that was definitely not our culture, he said adding that the world witnessed what was being said which every sane person will condemn by all means. He said that there can’t be our values and we must conduct ourselves as responsible young icons of the nation, and that is what the country needs.
He said protests should serve as a platform to raise genuine public concerns through constructive dialogue rather than becoming occasions for the use of offensive language or behaviour that undermines the very cause being championed. Young people participating in public movements should remember that they are not only representing themselves but also setting an example for society, he said.
Suri emphasized that India’s democratic traditions have always been rooted in peaceful debate, mutual respect, and civil discourse. He said disagreements with governments or institutions can be expressed strongly without compromising the nation’s cultural ethos or public decorum. The senior BJP leader urged the country’s youth to uphold the values of discipline, respect, and responsibility while participating in democratic movements.
He said the future of the nation rests in the hands of young citizens, and they must demonstrate leadership that inspires confidence rather than creating divisions through inappropriate conduct. Raman Suri said that using abusive language against the person duly elected, respected by the world leaders, elder in age and holding the highest position in the country speaks of the parents who raised these students which must never ever be repeated in any form.
Reiterating his faith in democratic principles, Suri said that the right to protest is a strength of Indian democracy, but every right carries a corresponding responsibility. He appealed to citizens to ensure that public demonstrations remain peaceful, dignified, and reflective of the rich cultural heritage and moral values that have always defined India.
