JAMMU, Aug 15: Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing, Jammu celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great patriotic fervor, enthusiasm, and active participation of students and faculty members.
The celebration was organised with the aim of commemorating the nation’s freedom struggle, honoring the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, and instilling a sense of patriotism, unity, responsibility, and national pride among the students.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome speech, setting the tone for a meaningful and patriotic celebration. Students from different nursing programmes participated enthusiastically in the programme.
The welcome address was followed by flag hosting and the National Anthem, marking the central ceremonial moment of the celebration. The unfurling of the National Flag filled the atmosphere with a strong sense of pride and patriotism, while everyone joined together in singing the National Anthem with respect and solemnity.
The celebration continued with a Song presented by the Meerab by BSc (N) 2nd Sem, which added a patriotic and melodious dimension to the programme. The performance beautifully reflected the spirit of unity, national pride, and love for the motherland.
The Hindi Speech segment was presented by Anmol Sharma, GNM 1st Year, who shared meaningful thoughts on the significance of Independence Day, the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, and the responsibilities of the younger generation towards the nation.
This was followed by an engaging patriotic skit, presented by Ifra Shabir, Ridham Sharma, Rezia Reyaz, Bhavni Badyal, Mariya Ayoub, Shikha, Ashu Gill, and Arushi. The skit effectively conveyed messages of patriotism, sacrifice, unity, and the importance of responsible citizenship, making it one of the notable highlights of the celebration.
The English Speech segment further enriched the programme, with students Muskan and Deepmala expressing their views on India’s journey as an independent nation and highlighting the role of youth in contributing towards the progress and development of the country.
The programme also provided an opportunity for the students to showcase their confidence, creativity, and communication skills. Shaista, B.Sc. Nursing 7th Semester, and Ayait Khursheed, B.Sc. Nursing 4th Semester, efficiently anchored the programme and maintained a smooth and engaging flow throughout the celebration.
The celebration concluded with an inspiring address by the Chairman MS Katoch, who appreciated the efforts of the students and faculty members and highlighted the importance of patriotism, discipline, education, unity, and social responsibility in nation-building. His address motivated the students to become responsible citizens and contribute positively to society.

A formal vote of thanks was then delivered, expressing gratitude to the management, dignitaries, faculty members, organisers, participants, and students for their valuable contributions towards making the Independence Day celebration a meaningful and successful event.
The programme concluded on a patriotic and inspiring note, reflecting the spirit of unity, freedom, and national pride. The enthusiastic participation of the students made the celebration memorable and reinforced the message that the youth, as the future of the nation, have an important role to play in carrying forward the values and ideals of independent India.
