JAMMU, Aug 3: Panun Kashmir on Monday expressed deep anguish over the recent targeted killings in Kashmir, extending condolences to the bereaved families and urging policymakers to address what it described as the ideological roots of such violence, while announcing an intensified organisational campaign ahead of its scheduled September programmes.
Addressing a press conference, Panun Kashmir Chairman Tito Ganju said the latest killings should not be viewed as isolated incidents but as part of a broader historical and ideological continuum. While acknowledging the importance of security operations, investigations, enhanced deployment and compensation for victims, he maintained that these measures alone could not provide a lasting solution. He stressed the need for a comprehensive approach that addresses the ideological dimensions of violence.
Dr. Agnishekhar, Convenor of Panun Kashmir, said contemporary targeted killings could not be understood in isolation from the 1989–90 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus. He asserted that the ideological foundations that, in his view, enabled the displacement had not been adequately confronted and called for sustained national attention to the issue.
General Secretary Kuldeep Raina said counter-terrorism efforts should be complemented by measures to dismantle the ecosystem that legitimises violence. He appealed to policymakers, constitutional institutions, academia and civil society to recognise the ideological dimensions of targeted attacks and ensure that the victims are not forgotten.
Meanwhile, Panun Kashmir reviewed preparations for its forthcoming programmes during a workers’ meeting held in Jammu on August 2. The meeting, hosted by Organising Secretary B.L. Kaul, was attended by district office-bearers and activists, including Bittuji Bhat, Bhushal Lal Bhat, Pyare Lal Kaul Badgami, Sanjay Raina, Pyare Lal Pandita, Tito Ganju and Dr. Agnishekhar.
The organisation resolved to intensify outreach across Jammu district to ensure maximum participation in a one-day mass hunger strike on September 5, 2026, and the observance of Kashmiri Pandit Balidan Diwas on September 14, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Agnishekhar described the forthcoming programmes as significant milestones in the organisation’s movement. He said the struggle of displaced Kashmiri Hindus could neither be reduced to symbolic remembrance nor allowed to fade into political convenience. He urged every activist to strengthen organisational outreach and work towards ensuring large public participation in the September events.
In a message from Bengaluru, Kuldeep Raina termed the July 20 protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, a major success and called for greater public mobilisation in the coming weeks. He appealed to members of the community to actively participate in the September 5 hunger strike and the September 14 Balidan Diwas observance, describing them as important programmes for highlighting the organisation’s concerns.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution to strengthen Panun Kashmir’s grassroots network, expand organisational outreach across Jammu district and mobilise maximum participation in the upcoming events, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to pursuing its stated objectives through democratic and constitutional means.
