BHADERWAH, Oct 12: In recognition of its contribution to grassroots sports promotion and youth engagement, the Youth Action Committee (YAC), a non-governmental organisation based in Bhaderwah, has received a Certificate of Appreciation from NITI Aayog for successfully organising the International Dangal 2026.
The two-day wrestling event was held on August 22 and 23 in Doda district under the Government of India’s flagship Khelo India initiative. The recognition acknowledges the organisation’s efforts in promoting sportsmanship, encouraging community participation and creating opportunities for young people to engage in constructive activities.
Led by Chairman Naseer Mehboob, YAC Bhaderwah was appreciated for its organisational efforts, leadership and administrative management in conducting the international-level wrestling event.
According to the citation, the committee’s sustained efforts to encourage grassroots participation in sports have contributed to the broader national vision of developing a vibrant, healthy and robust sporting ecosystem.
Reacting to the recognition, YAC Chairman Naseer Mehboob said the organisation remained committed to channelising the energy of young people towards discipline, physical fitness and constructive pursuits.
He emphasised that promoting sports was an effective way to encourage healthy lifestyles and discourage young people from falling prey to social challenges, including drug abuse.
“Our objective is to channelise youth energy towards discipline and constructive activities, ensuring they achieve excellence and bring pride to the nation,” Mehboob said.
He added that the organisation would continue to work towards providing young people with opportunities to participate in sports and contribute positively to society.
The recognition is expected to encourage civil society organisations across the Chenab Valley to strengthen their involvement in traditional sports, youth development and community welfare. Traditional wrestling, in particular, continues to provide an important platform for promoting physical fitness, discipline and cultural heritage among young people.
The achievement marks an encouraging milestone for YAC Bhaderwah and highlights the role grassroots organisations can play in supporting national sports development initiatives and fostering a positive environment for youth participation.
