KISHTWAR, Oct 12: DySP Traffic Shoket Ali, JKPS, has urged the public to strictly follow traffic regulations, wear helmets while riding two-wheelers and avoid violations, emphasising that responsible road behaviour is essential to preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of all road users.

He said traffic enforcement drives were being conducted at various locations across Kishtwar to ensure road safety and compliance with prescribed traffic rules.

As part of the enforcement campaign, a traffic checkpoint was established on Padder Road to verify vehicle documents and penalise violators through the issuance of challans. Earlier, similar checkpoints were set up near Dak Bungalow in Kishtwar town, where action was taken against motorists found violating traffic regulations.

DySP Ali further informed that a road safety awareness programme was organised at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kishtwar, to educate students about the importance of traffic discipline and safe road practices. The initiative aimed to encourage young people to develop responsible road habits and spread awareness about accident prevention.

Appealing to transporters, drivers, two-wheeler riders and the general public, Ali urged everyone to carry valid driving licences and vehicle documents and comply with all prescribed traffic regulations. He stressed that violations not only invite legal action but can also endanger the lives of drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

He specifically emphasised the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers and cautioned against triple riding. He urged riders to prioritise safety and avoid practices that increase the risk of road accidents.

The DySP reiterated that traffic enforcement and public awareness would remain important components of efforts to improve road safety in the district. He called upon citizens to cooperate with the Traffic Police and adopt responsible driving practices to help make Kishtwar’s roads safer for everyone.
