Without statehood, development and prosperity will remain elusive: Abrol
Dr Vikas flags appointment of non-locals in J&K Universities
JAMMU, Jun 14: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Provincial Joint Secretary Ankush Abrol today reiterated the party’s demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour the commitment made to the people of the region.
Addressing a youth meeting, Abrol said that the restoration of statehood is not merely a political necessity but also a constitutional and moral obligation. He asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been waiting earnestly for the fulfilment of this promise and deserve concrete action without further delay.
“Statehood is a commitment made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The time for delays and empty promises is over. People now expect positive and decisive action,” he said.
The meeting was organised by Vikshay Vashist and was attended by Ankush Abrol as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Vikas Sharma, Coordinator and Secretary Central Zone JKNC, was the Guest of Honour.
Interacting with the youth, both leaders maintained that the restoration of statehood is essential for ensuring development, peace, and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed concern that without statehood, these objectives would remain difficult to achieve.
In his address, Dr. Vikas Sharma criticised the BJP, alleging that its policies are anti-poor, anti-youth, and anti-downtrodden. He said these policies have contributed to economic decline, administrative confusion, and developmental neglect in the region.
“The people of Jammu had high expectations from the BJP, but the party has failed to deliver on its promises and has betrayed the trust reposed in it by the masses,” he said.
Raising concerns over employment policies, Dr. Sharma expressed strong reservations regarding the appointment of non-local candidates in the education sector, particularly in universities across Jammu and Kashmir.
“This trend is limiting employment opportunities for highly qualified local youth and creating a sense of discrimination among educated young people of the Union Territory,” he said, while demanding a fair and transparent recruitment policy that gives preference to local candidates.
He urged the people to strengthen the National Conference, enabling it to continue serving the public and fulfilling their aspirations. He emphasized that the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remains committed to holistic development and people-centric governance.
He appealed to the people to see through what he termed the BJP’s “false promises” and support the National Conference in its mission to bring stability, progress, and justice to Jammu and Kashmir.
Among those present at the meeting were Abhishek Uppal, Vineet Gupta, Sanjay Anand, Ashfaq Ahmed Adil, Ashfaq Ahmed, Gourav, Nikhal Parihar, Ankush Sharma, Nisharat Ali, Pankaj Sharma, Sourav Thakur, Vikas Sharma, Sahil Sharma, Ankush, and several other party workers and youth participants.
