Love and divine name can transform human nature: Madhuparamhans

JAMMU, Oct 11: Sadguru Shri Madhuparamhans Ji Maharaj of Sahib Bandgi delivered a spiritual discourse at Rakhbandhu, Jammu, emphasising the transformative power of the divine ‘Name’ imparted by a Saint-Sadguru. He explained that devotion to the divine Name could help a person overcome negative tendencies and cultivate purity, compassion and virtuous conduct.

Addressing the congregation, Sahib Ji Maharaj highlighted the supreme importance of love, describing it as the embodiment of bliss and one of the greatest forces capable of transforming human relationships. He said that love could dissolve long-standing enmities and bring about a profound change in human nature, turning even a person driven by base instincts towards humanity and virtue. He stressed that understanding the true meaning of love was essential for spiritual growth.

Explaining the connection between attention and happiness, Sahib Ji said that a person’s sense of bliss often depends on where their attention is directed. According to him, the mind remains absorbed in whatever a person considers most important, making the direction of attention a decisive factor in life. He encouraged devotees to reflect on where they invest their thoughts, emotions and energies, explaining that lasting spiritual fulfilment comes from directing the mind towards the divine.

Illustrating his message with the example of childhood, he explained that a young child initially finds happiness in the company of the mother, but as the child grows, attention gradually shifts towards toys and other interests. The example, he said, demonstrates how the mind continually changes its focus, influencing a person’s attachment and sense of fulfilment.

Sahib Ji further explained that people often make the objects of their strongest desires the centre of their lives. For someone consumed by greed, wealth becomes the primary focus, while another person may remain absorbed in worldly attractions. Referring to the spiritual tradition of Saint Kabir, he explained that Kabir’s devotion was centred on the Saints, while the Saints themselves remained absorbed in the divine Name. Through this illustration, he emphasised the importance of choosing a spiritual focus that leads towards inner growth rather than temporary worldly satisfaction.

Highlighting the relationship between the mind and attention, Sahib Ji said that although everyone possesses a mind, its direction determines the course of one’s life. The mind naturally tends to become entangled in material pursuits, often distracting individuals from inner reflection and spiritual understanding. Just as children eventually outgrow their attachment to toys, people must recognise the temporary nature of worldly attractions and seek a deeper sense of fulfilment.

He urged devotees to remain firmly connected with the divine Name and remember it consistently in their daily lives. According to his teachings, the Name provides a spiritual anchor that helps individuals rise above distracting thoughts and attachments. He emphasised that disciplined remembrance, devotion to the Guru and conscious direction of the mind are essential for spiritual progress.

Concluding his discourse, Sadguru Shri Madhuparamhans Ji Maharaj encouraged the congregation to make divine remembrance an integral part of everyday life. He conveyed that by directing attention towards the Guru and the divine Name, individuals could work towards inner peace, positive transformation and a deeper understanding of the spiritual path.
