JAMMU, May 31: Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF), under the leadership of its State President Mohd Ashraf Sheikh, has welcomed the Government’s decision to file a review petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court regarding the TET issue affecting thousands of in-service teachers across Jammu and Kashmir.
Reacting to the statement of Education Minister Sakina Itoo and the sanction accorded by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on May 26, 2026, JKTF Provincial President Jammu, Gulshan Kumar Sharma, termed the development a positive step and a reflection of the collective voice and sustained efforts of the teaching fraternity.
Speaking on the occasion, Gulshan Kumar Sharma said that the decision to file a review petition addresses the genuine concerns of thousands of serving teachers who were appointed long before the implementation of NCTE guidelines. He stated that JKTF, under the leadership of Mohd Ashraf Sheikh, has consistently raised the issue before the Government and demanded protection of the service rights, dignity, seniority and promotional prospects of affected teachers.
He further said that the meetings organized by JKTF, representations submitted to the Government and memoranda presented by the State President, along with the united struggle of teachers, played an important role in bringing the issue to the forefront and securing timely Government action.
Sharma urged the Government to pursue the legal remedy vigorously before the Hon’ble Supreme Court and ensure that no adverse action is taken against any in-service teacher until the matter reaches its final conclusion.
Appealing to the teaching community, he called upon all teachers to remain united and vigilant while extending full support to every lawful initiative aimed at safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests.
He also expressed confidence in the leadership of Mohd Ashraf Sheikh, describing him as a dynamic and committed leader who has consistently championed teachers’ causes. He urged the teaching community to strengthen JKTF’s collective efforts in the larger interest of teachers across Jammu and Kashmir.
JKTF reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting the honour, dignity and legitimate rights of teachers and to strengthening the education system in Jammu and Kashmir.
