JAMMU, May 31: The Outreach Department of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu hosted 85 students from Classes 8 to 12, accompanied by their teachers, from British International School, Sainik Colony, and Army Public School, Udhampur, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote scientific temperament and innovation among young learners.
The educational visit was organized under the guidance of Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev and Dr. Sameer K. S. P., with the objective of exposing students to advanced scientific research, engineering concepts and state-of-the-art technological facilities available at the institute.
During the visit, students toured several key laboratories and technical facilities across the IIT Jammu campus. At the Central Workshop, they were introduced to modern fabrication techniques and gained insights into additive and subtractive manufacturing processes used in engineering and industrial applications.
A major attraction of the visit was the Robotics and Drone Laboratory, where students observed the design and development of robots and learned about the assembly and functioning of various types of drones. The interactive demonstrations provided them with a practical understanding of emerging technologies that are transforming industries worldwide.
The students also visited the Electrical and Electronic Signal Laboratory, where faculty members and researchers demonstrated concepts related to signals, noise and signal variations. The session helped participants understand the practical applications of electronics and communication systems beyond classroom learning.
Through hands-on demonstrations and interactive learning experiences, the outreach programme successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world technological applications. The visit enabled students to engage directly with advanced scientific equipment and research environments, inspiring them to explore careers in science, engineering, innovation and technology.
The initiative reflects IIT Jammu’s commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity and encouraging young minds to pursue higher education and research in emerging fields.
