JAMMU, Jul 22: Heritage School organised a workshop on “Teaching Through Low-Cost Teaching Aids” for Science and Mathematics teachers of Classes I to VIII, with the objective of promoting innovative, activity-based and experiential learning in classrooms.
The workshop was conducted by Prof. Mineesh Gulati, a noted teacher trainer, STEM and AI educator, and Physics education specialist with over 33 years of experience in teacher professional development. As the Coordinator of Happy IAPT Anveshika – Experiential Science Center, Prof. Gulati has trained more than 1,500 teachers and conducted workshops for over 9,000 students.
During the session, Prof. Gulati demonstrated a range of low-cost teaching aids made from easily available materials to simplify complex concepts in Science and Mathematics. He explained topics including Newton’s Laws of Motion, inertia, direct and inverse proportion, the Pythagoras Theorem, mathematical identities, the Periodic Table through rhymes, the seven colours of light and force acting at a distance.
Emphasising the importance of creativity in education, he highlighted that effective teaching depends more on innovative use of locally available resources than on expensive laboratory equipment.
Teachers actively participated in hands-on activities, shared classroom experiences and explored practical ways to incorporate the teaching aids into their lessons. The workshop encouraged collaboration, reflective teaching and learner-centred classroom practices.
As a gesture of appreciation, the school presented a sapling to Prof. Gulati, symbolising respect, sustainability and a shared commitment to education and environmental conservation.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, leaving participants inspired and better equipped to make classroom teaching more engaging, enjoyable and effective.
