Gujjar Bakerwal Youth President condemns alleged assault on minor in Kishtwar

KISHTWAR, Aug 26: Gujjar Bakerwal Association Youth President Kishtwar Younis Choudhary has strongly condemned the alleged incident involving a minor girl in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, describing it as deeply disturbing and heartbreaking.

According to the allegations, a 14-year-old girl, reportedly studying in the fifth standard, was sexually assaulted by a teacher, became pregnant and later died following an alleged attempt to terminate the pregnancy. The circumstances surrounding the incident are subject to investigation.

Choudhary said that, if established during the investigation, the allegations would constitute a grave violation of the rights, dignity and life of an innocent child. He said that allegations of such serious nature involving a person associated with the teaching profession are particularly concerning and warrant a thorough investigation.

He urged the district administration, police and Education Department to conduct a complete, transparent and impartial investigation into the matter and ensure that all persons found responsible are brought to justice under the applicable laws, including relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Association leader stressed that no political, social or administrative pressure should be permitted to influence the investigation. He said that if anyone is found guilty by the competent court, the person should face the strictest punishment prescribed under law.

Choudhary further emphasised the need for stronger safeguards to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation, particularly in institutions and environments where they are expected to be safe and protected.

“Protecting the dignity, safety and lives of innocent girls is the responsibility of the entire nation,” he said, urging all stakeholders to ensure justice for the victim and strengthen mechanisms for the protection of children.
