JAMMU, Sep 8: The Department of Environmental Sciences, GGM Science College, Jammu, organized a Prakriti Vandana programme with the aim of fostering reverence for nature and sensitizing students towards the urgent need for environmental conservation and sustainable living.
The programme conveyed the profound message that nature is the foundation of life and that human well-being is intrinsically linked with the health of ecosystems. The event sought to nurture a sense of gratitude, responsibility and stewardship towards trees, forests, water, soil, wildlife and the rich biodiversity that sustains life on Earth.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, GGM Science College, appreciated the initiative of the Department of Environmental Sciences and emphasized the need to strengthen the relationship between human beings and nature. He stressed that environmental protection should become a part of everyday life and that students, as future leaders and responsible citizens, have an important role to play in safeguarding the environment.
Dr. Neha Sharma, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, spoke on the significance of Prakriti Vandana, highlighting the Indian ethos of respecting nature as an integral part of life. She emphasized that the traditional values of gratitude and coexistence with nature can provide meaningful guidance in addressing contemporary environmental challenges. She called upon students to translate environmental awareness into responsible action and sustainable practices.
Prof. Poonam Kundan, Assistant Professor, highlighted the importance of developing an attitude of care and respect towards the natural world. She emphasized that conservation begins with individual responsibility and that conscious choices in daily life can contribute significantly to environmental sustainability.
Prof. Muzaffar Sheikh, Head, Department of Water Management, spoke about the indispensable role of water in sustaining ecosystems and human civilization. He underlined the importance of judicious use, conservation and responsible management of water resources in the face of increasing environmental pressures. Dr. Sheraz Kousser was also present on the occasion.
The programme served as a meaningful reminder that reverence for nature must be accompanied by responsibility towards its protection. The event concluded with a collective resolve to promote environmental consciousness, conserve natural resources and work towards a healthier and more sustainable future.
