GDC Thannamandi organizes women-led awareness drive and campus rally under NMBA

THANNAMANDI, May 14: Government Degree College Thannamandi organises a women-led awareness drive and campus rally, as a part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). under the guidance of the Officiating Principal of the College Dr. Nazakat Hussain.

The rally witnessed active participation from female students and faculty members of the college and was aimed at spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting the vision of a drug-free society under the broader initiative of Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Naseem Ahmed Malik, Nodal Officer, NMBA.

The programme focused on sensitizing students about the social, psychological, and health-related consequences of substance abuse, while encouraging youth to adopt healthy lifestyles and contribute positively towards society. The initiative also emphasized the role of educational institutions in creating awareness and strengthening community participation in the fight against drug addiction. A poster-making activity was also conducted during the programme, where students creatively presented awareness messages and highlighted the need for collective efforts to eradicate drug addiction from society.

The rally was coordinated by Prof. Supriya Gupta, NSS Programme Officer and Head, Department of Computer Applications, Prof. Rizwana Kousar Head, Department of Kashmiri, Dr. Shazia Paswal Head, Department of Agriculture Technology, Prof. Yasmeen Kouser Department of Urdu and Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, Head, Department of Physics.

Earlier, on May 12, 2026, an awareness and debate session was also organized under the NMBA banner to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of collective responsibility in building an addiction-free society.

The faculty members appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students and reiterated the importance of sustained awareness programmes to empower youth and strengthen the mission of a drug-free India.
