KATHUA, Aug 7: As part of the celebrations commemorating the 80th National Independence Day, the Literary Committee of Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, organised an Essay Writing Competition under the patronage of Dr. Manohar Lal, Principal of the college.
The competition was based on the theme, “Role of Education in Promoting Peace and National Unity,” and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various semesters. Participants presented thoughtful and well-structured essays highlighting the significance of education in fostering peace, harmony, tolerance, social responsibility, and national integration. Their insightful ideas and impressive writing skills reflected a deep understanding of the theme, making the event both meaningful and intellectually enriching.
The entries were evaluated by an panel of judges comprising Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Head, Department of English; Dr. Yashpaul Sharma, Head, Department of Urdu; and Dr. Ram Singh, Head, Department of Education. The essays were assessed on the basis of content, originality, coherence, language, and relevance to the theme.
Sharda Pangotra of Semester III secured the first position, while Himani and Bhumika, both from Semester V, secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Congratulating the winners, Principal Dr. Manohar Lal appreciated their outstanding performances and also commended all participants for their enthusiastic involvement and intellectual contributions. He lauded the efforts of the Literary Committee for successfully organising the competition and encouraged students to actively participate in such literary activities that promote critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and patriotic values.
The event was efficiently conducted and coordinated by Dr. Kamaljot Kour, whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth and successful execution of the programme.
