JAMMU, May 29: Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, has added another feather to its cap as LC Payal Chib, an NCC cadet of 1JK Naval Unit of the college, brought immense pride to the institution and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir by securing the prestigious “Best Cadet (SW)” Award at the Special NCC Yachting Camp 2026 held at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Goa.
The camp was organized by the Karnataka & Goa NCC Directorate and conducted by 1 Goa Naval Unit NCC from 11th to 18th May 2026. Cadets from various NCC Directorates across the country participated in the highly competitive camp, which provided intensive training in sailing and windsurfing under expert instructors from the Indian Navy.
During the camp, an examination was conducted by the Yachting Association of India to assess the technical knowledge, practical skills, and overall competence of the participating cadets. Through her outstanding performance, dedication, leadership qualities, and exceptional sailing skills, LC Payal Chib of the Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh Directorate secured the First Position among all Senior Wing (SW) cadets and was declared the “Best Cadet (SW)” of the camp.
A special interaction session was also held with the Additional Director General (ADG), NCC Directorate Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh, during which Payal Chib’s remarkable achievements and exemplary conduct were highly appreciated. In recognition of her excellence, she was awarded the Red Cap and the Medal of Excellence by the ADG, an honor reserved for outstanding NCC cadets who demonstrate exceptional commitment, discipline, and leadership.
The Principal of GCW Gandhinagar, Prof. Kulvinder Kour, congratulated Payal Chib on her remarkable success. She stated that Payal’s achievement reflects the spirit of dedication, discipline, and perseverance fostered by the NCC and serves as an inspiration for other students to strive for excellence in all fields. Prof. Kulvinder Kour further appreciated the efforts of the NCC officer of 1 JK naval Unit Dr. Rachna Devi for continuously motivating and guiding cadets to participate in national-level activities and bring laurels to the institution.
