JAMMU, May 29: Senior BJP leader and prominent social activist Adv Devraj Sharma today visited Miran Sahib in the RS Pura Jammu South constituency, where he interacted with local residents and listened to a wide range of public grievances, including unscheduled power cuts, poor governance, inadequate civic amenities, weak infrastructure, and growing public hardships in the region.
During the public interaction programme, several residents expressed concern over erratic electricity supply, deteriorating roads, poor drainage systems, lack of basic developmental works, and delays in addressing public issues. Locals urged immediate intervention to improve governance and strengthen essential services in the area.
Addressing party workers and local residents, Adv Sharma remarked that an empowered, trained, and ideologically committed activist is the biggest strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said the BJP leadership is not only focused on expanding the organisational structure but also on enhancing the quality, efficiency, and public outreach capacity of party workers at every level.
He said a well-informed and dedicated activist acts as a vital bridge between the government and the people, ensuring that welfare schemes, developmental initiatives, and public-oriented programmes of the government effectively reach every household. He stressed that BJP workers must remain actively connected with the masses and work sincerely to resolve public grievances.
Adv Sharma assured the gathering that the district unit of the BJP is fully committed to implementing the directions and vision laid down by the party leadership. He stated that special emphasis is being placed on ensuring maximum participation in organisational training workshops and strengthening the morale and preparedness of workers from booth level to district level.
Highlighting the growing threat of narcotics, the BJP leader said that the Narendra Modi-led government has adopted a strict zero-tolerance policy against drugs and is working extensively to protect the youth from the destructive menace of substance abuse. He remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly described youth as the nation’s greatest strength and emphasized the need to channelize their energy towards nation-building and constructive activities.
Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resolve for a “Drug-Free India,” Adv Sharma said the Modi Government is determined to eradicate the menace of narcotics with the same seriousness and commitment with which the country is moving towards freedom from Naxalism. He said the drug menace is not merely a law-and-order challenge but a serious social issue that requires collective efforts from families, educational institutions, social organisations, religious bodies, and political workers.
He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha-led administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police, security forces, and civil administration for carrying out aggressive anti-drug campaigns and successful operations against narcotics networks across Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that strict action against drug peddlers and awareness campaigns among youth are yielding positive results.
Calling upon the younger generation to stay away from drugs, Adv Sharma urged youth to actively participate in sports, education, entrepreneurship, skill development, and social service activities. He said BJP workers are committed to taking the message of “Nasha Mukt Bharat” to every locality and household across Jammu and Kashmir in order to build a healthier and stronger society.
The senior BJP leader also expressed serious concern over what he termed as attempts by certain political parties to create divisions in Jammu and Kashmir on the basis of religion, caste, and language. Describing the situation as extremely sensitive, he said divisive politics weakens social harmony and obstructs the overall development of the region.
Launching a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC) and Congress, Adv Sharma alleged that Jammu region has suffered decades of systematic discrimination under successive governments led by these parties. He accused the Omar Abdullah-led NC government of failing to provide adequate relief and basic benefits to the people necessary for their day-to-day survival.
He further alleged that despite tall promises, people continue to face hardships related to unemployment, inflation, weak infrastructure, irregular power supply, and inadequate development in several parts of Jammu. He maintained that the BJP remains committed to equitable development, transparency, and strengthening grassroots governance across Jammu and Kashmir.Several local BJP leaders, party activists, and residents were present during the programme and reiterated their commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots level while actively highlighting public issues before the administration.
