RAMGARH, Sep 4: A wall of an under-construction drain in Ramgarh collapsed before the completion of the project, raising serious concerns over the quality of construction and alleged irregularities in the execution of public works. Former Minister and senior Congress leader Yashpal Kundal visited the site and termed the incident “highly shameful.”
Kundal questioned the quality of material and construction used in the drain’s protection wall, alleging that proper reinforcement and construction material had not been used. He expressed concern over the ability of the structure to withstand soil pressure and vehicular movement once the project becomes operational.
The former minister also targeted the BJP MLA, alleging that development claims were being made on paper while the ground situation presented a different picture. He said the collapse of the wall even before the work was completed indicated a serious failure to maintain prescribed quality standards in public projects.
“People’s hard-earned money is being spent on these projects, and there must be accountability for every rupee,” Kundal said, demanding a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the collapse.
Kundal called upon the administration to fix responsibility and take strict action against officials, contractors or other persons found responsible for negligence or any financial irregularities. He stressed that development works funded with public money must be executed with transparency and in accordance with approved technical specifications.
He further urged the administration to ensure that the damaged portion is properly assessed and reconstructed using quality material and adequate reinforcement. Kundal maintained that merely completing the project would not be sufficient unless the drain meets the required engineering and safety standards and provides long-term benefit to local residents.
