JAMMU, Jun 9: Mission Statehood President Sunil Dimple on Monday organized a cold water shabil and community lunger at New Plot-Janipur High Court Road to provide relief to residents, visitors and commuters amid the scorching summer heat, with temperatures touching nearly 45 degrees Celsius.

A large number of youth leaders and volunteers participated in the service initiative. Among those present were Ashok Sharma, Sunil Sharma, Kamal Sharma, Janak Raj, Uttam, Sonu, Rita Sharma and several others.

Addressing media persons on the occasion, Dimple appealed to the people of Jammu to come forward and organize cold water shabils across the city during peak summer hours to help visitors, pilgrims and tourists cope with the intense heat. He said such community efforts are essential, particularly when many areas are facing a shortage of drinking water.

Dimple alleged that several water coolers installed by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) across the city are lying defunct and are not providing drinking water to the public. He further claimed that residents in many localities are facing acute scarcity of drinking water along with unscheduled power cuts.

Expressing concern over the situation, Dimple alleged that adequate tanker services are not available in areas affected by water shortages. He further alleged that people are being charged for water tanker services in localities where regular drinking water supply is not being provided.

He also criticized the power situation in Jammu, alleging that prolonged and unscheduled power cuts are being imposed even in fully metered areas, causing inconvenience to residents during the peak summer season.

On the occasion, Dimple appealed to devotees from across the country to participate in large numbers in the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra. He stated that extensive arrangements have been made for pilgrims, including free langar facilities at various locations from Lakhanpur to the Amarnath Cave Shrine through the Baltal and Pahalgam routes.

He expressed hope that this year’s pilgrimage would witness a large turnout of devotees and contribute to the spirit of faith, unity and service associated with the annual yatra.

The programme concluded with the distribution of cold drinking water and refreshments among passersby, commuters and local residents.
