KISHTWAR, Aug 1: Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, JKAS, today reviewed the damage caused by a cloudburst that struck a drain near Dugga Market, close to the J&K Bank in Chhatroo, at about 3:00 a.m.
The cloudburst produced a sudden flash flood that partially damaged two residential houses and two shops, and washed away two vehicles. The District Administration immediately mobilised concerned agencies and line departments, including the Hydraulic Department, Public Works Department (PWD), local police, and other emergency response teams, to carry out rescue, damage assessment, and restoration operations.
Chief actions taken: Search and rescue operations launched immediately; affected persons evacuated to safe locations. Rapid assessment of structural damage to houses, shops, roads, and drainage. Hydraulic Department and PWD engaged to clear the drain, remove debris, and restore flow. Temporary measures put in place to secure vulnerable areas and prevent further damage.
The Deputy Commissioner said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and working round the clock to restore normalcy at the earliest. He appealed to residents to follow official advisories, avoid approaching drains and unstable water channels, and cooperate with authorities for their safety.
