Cyber Police Jammu/JK4C sensitizes IIT Jammu students on Cyber Crimes & Digital Hygiene

JAMMU, Aug 8: The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu organized a Cyber Awareness Program on “Cyber Crimes & Digital Hygiene” to sensitize students and the academic community about emerging cyber threats, responsible digital practices, and preventive measures for ensuring online safety.

The session was delivered by Inspector Bhupinder Singh Sasan, Investigating Officer, Cyber Police Station, Jammu/JK4C, who shared valuable insights into the growing challenges in cyberspace and highlighted practical measures for safeguarding individuals against cybercrime.

The programme was attended by Dr. Badri Narayan Subudhi, Dean (DI), IIT Jammu, Dr. Sarada Prasad Gochhayat, Assistant Professor, (CSE), IIT Jammu and Dr. Anil Saini, Coordinator (C3I/DI), IIT Jammu, along with faculty members and students of the Institute.

During the session, Inspector Singh elaborated on various forms of cybercrime, including financial fraud, phishing, identity theft, online scams, and misuse of social media platforms. He emphasized the importance of responsible digital behaviour, maintaining secure online practices, regularly updating security settings, and promptly reporting suspicious cyber activity through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in).

The session also featured real-life case studies from recent investigations handled by the Cyber Police Station, Jammu, providing participants with a practical understanding of cyber threats, their modus operandi, and preventive strategies. The interactive programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, who raised queries related to online safety, data privacy, digital ethics, and emerging cybersecurity concerns.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Badri Narayan Subudhi and Dr. Sarada Prasad Gochhayat commended the efforts of Cyber Police Jammu/JK4C for its proactive role in promoting cyber awareness among youth and the academic community. He encouraged students to remain vigilant, adopt safe digital practices, and contribute towards building a cyber-responsible society.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anil Saini, Coordinator (C3I/DI), IIT Jammu, who expressed appreciation to Cyber Police Jammu/JK4C for its valuable contribution towards promoting cyber literacy and strengthening IIT Jammu’s efforts to foster a secure, aware, and responsible digital ecosystem.
